It started in late 2019, while my wife was pregnant. It's roughly 2 am, and I hear a gentle "Nate." She says it in a way that exudes, "I know you and don't want to startle you despite my current situation." I look at her, puzzled. Dazed.

All in Life
It started in late 2019, while my wife was pregnant. It's roughly 2 am, and I hear a gentle "Nate." She says it in a way that exudes, "I know you and don't want to startle you despite my current situation." I look at her, puzzled. Dazed.
She was putting in 15 hour days. Burnt out. Tired. Frustrated. For years, I had been coaching her about the importance of strategic depth within our company. Being that she's our CFO, co-founder, and my mom, she's a tough nut to crack. She ignored my advice. Just like I've ignored my own advice at times.
I wanted to rip through my computer screen and bash it over his head. Someone was stealing information. I was watching it unfold in real-time. We get angry. There are many situations where steam has come out of my ears. I was red-eyed chugging down the railroad tracks, in hopes of a collision.
As I walked the hall of the office, I saw him. A new team member was creeping my corridor with a frown.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
He gently remarked, “everything is fine.”
“Okay, if you want to talk, I'm here!”
As I brewed some coffee in our Sky Lounge, he peeked in and whispered, "I don't smile much. It's something I've been trying to work on."
Nobody does that, I thought. An honest, vocal admittance of an area they need to work on, and I respect it a ton.
ADD is my superpower.
I've become a multifaceted human because of it.
My skill stack is extensive, and my interests are deep.
I take no credit.
If it were up to me, I would watch movies, stuff my face with chips and lick leftovers off my fingers.
This was my brain's fault.
It took over me like an alien invading Area 51.
We're all overwhelmed with information. It's the 24 hour CNN effect.
It's happening within your office walls.
Coworkers are blasting through the door, or around your cubicle like they witnessed a UFO landing.
OMG. Did you listen to the recent Joe Rogan podcast?
And…focus lost.
I've created a coping mechanism over the years to avoid this.
Even decades.
If you're impatient, choose the egg. You'll be happier with your progress.
Mastery takes time.
It takes consistent learning, deliberate practice, and instant feedback.
The only thing that helped me focus was having clear goals I was passionate about, and action plans to achieve them.
It was that simple.
ADD is my SUPERPOWER and GOALS are my bat light.
It's hard to stay focused if you don't take the right approach to achieve your goals; here's how.
When I wake up, I pour boiling water over my head.
I feel the scalding heat down my back, drip by drip.
It makes me tough. Strong.
Crazy!
Who am I kidding?
I'm not crazy. I don't pour boiling water over my head.
Instead, I do a few critical things that prime me for the day and don't include second-degree burns.
They'll benefit you too.
Everything in life is meant to distract you - to get your attention. I'm distracted daily. The yarn of life pulling at my thread - doing everything it can to get my attention. When I succumb to its pressure, it's my fault. Usually, for these reasons.
