Do You Feel Like Shit? Here’s The Reason Why And It May Surprise You
You start your day looking up at the ceiling. You complain. You complain about hurting. About being tired. About all the stuff you have to get done today.
You feel like shit.
And in a lot of ways, you actually may be full of shit — don’t let me lose you here.
I was fat. I hated reading. I’m ADD. I had a short fuse. And I was running a high-stress international company.
It was the middle of the week. I had an urgent phone call with a satellite sales team member. He wasn’t producing the results we needed. He was selling but was causing all sorts of internal issues. It was frustrating. So I made the call. 5 minutes later he said something that pissed me off. I began to yell. To scream.
We eventually concluded the call with “you’re fired!”
The entire office heard. I felt like an idiot. I was an idiot!
Do you think this was going to get me to the next level? Do you think this caused me internal piece? Of course not.
And what a shitty way to treat someone. This was and is so far beyond our values that I should have been fired.
But I’d have to fire myself. A challenging proposition.
The moral of this story is…
Don’t shove shit into a system and expect a diamond
This is a mantra I tell myself often. Along with “don’t be a B!$@#.”
They’re harsh, but they shock my system. A nice motivator. They come from a place of love.
The shit you put in equals the shit you get out.
Meaning, “shit in = shit out.”
No, this isn’t a new calculus formula!
Far too often, you feel the way you do because of some variable in your control. Whether it’s your nutrition habits. How you take care of your body. Who you hang around. What you read. What you watch.
Your shitty feeling rests on you. No excuses. You.
If you don’t believe me…
“Less than 5% of adults participate in 30 minutes of physical activity each day; only one in three adults receive the recommended amount of physical activity each week.”
“More than 80% of adults do not meet the guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities, and more than 80% of adolescents do not do enough aerobic physical activity to meet the guidelines for youth.”
“37.9% reported unintentionally falling asleep during the day at least once in the preceding month.”
If you eat bad, you’re going to feel bad.
If you’re lazy, you’ll feel and act lazy.
If you read gossip, you will gossip.
If you produce poor work on a project, the project will be poor.
If you think negative things, you will be negative.
Look at your day and dissect why you feel the way you do. Why you’re producing mediocre results.
Why you feel like shit.
To feel less shitty, you have to act less shitty.
I’m an ADD, type A, introverted personality. Thanks, Mom and Dad!
My first work of order was to write down who I wanted to be. Not what others wanted of me. What I wanted.
What I wanted was a successful life.
This was my formula…
“True Success = Loving My Family, Loving My Work, Living My Purpose, Being Present & Grateful for Every Moment.”
That’s what I wanted. Yet, how could I get there? Internal piece…
Noticing how I was acting and how I felt inside. I had to quiet my mind. My mind was always racing. It was forceful. It often still does, but now I can control it.
I began regaining the control of my mind through meditation which has fundamentally changed my life. So has stoicism. My son was the final and third life-altering shift.
I leveled up what I put into my body, listening and reading things that would impact me in some way, fueling my mind and body with the best food. Spending time on things that mattered the most to me…my family and reconnecting with nature.
I started pushing back the shit I was putting in my mind and body.
And when I did this, I felt better, I was more mentally clear, I was stronger, faster, quicker to make hard last-minute decisions that were the right ones, smarter, at peace internally, and the best of all…
My business skyrocketed with a better bottom line and a kickass team.
And you can too…
This all led me to create what I call, escaping a ROTTEN life.
The R-O-T means Return On Time.
Each and every day I ask myself, am I ROTTEN today and how can I best maximize my Return On Time?
I do what I love, and I love what I do. I fuel this be feeding my mind, body and soul with the right ingredients.
You need to do this too.
Be less shitty and maximize your life’s return on time.
